Reality and reality TV are not the same. The hard facts about reality television are that if what you are seeing is not taken from a personal camcorder such as what is shown on Most Shocking 4 then the idea of real is trivial. The goal of any show on television is to attract viewers. Reality is not always interesting enough to do that so scripts are made, butting personalities are pit against each other and arguments are facilitated by endless amounts of alcohol as seen on shows like MTV’s the Real World. Entertaining, yes.
There is nothing real about it, accept for the basic idea for who the featured person is. When looking at a list of reality TV shows you will see that many of them include young hot girls, explosive guys, usually at least one gay person and then the outspoken one who may be ultra conservative, liberal or something. From there the show’s producers will edit what was once reality and create characters, conflict and resolution in any way they see fit. Ratings are the key. The hard facts about reality television are that the people you are watching are unskilled, untrained actors who jumped on the reality bandwagon that so many of us watch. Reality TV popularity is still overwhelming so people must not care. |
